About the Mayor

Mayor DON L ABALON

Mayor Don Abalon is the first mayor of San Roque to be elected to office for the fourth time. He previously served as Municipal Mayor in 1998-2001 and 2001-2004, when he decided to forgo running for a third time to run, instead, for a higher position. He made a miraculous political comeback after an attempt on his life in 2010, which took him about two years to recuperate, and was elected for a new (his third) term in the 2013 elections. His accomplishments and achievements as mayor from 2013-2016 made it easy to unify all development-oriented and prosperity-inclined political leaders in San Roque and ushered in a unified ticket for the 09 May 2016 elections, uniting the two political groups that contested in the previous elections. He was elected for his fourth term (2016-2019) with unprecedented votes, obtaining 93.82% of the votes casted.

He also served as the Private Secretary of Congressman Emil Ong from 1987 to 1988 when the latter was the Administrator of the National Food Authority. When he was not holding any political position, he was in the practice of law, having been admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1989. As a reserve military officer, with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, which he obtained after graduating from the National Defense College of the Philippines with the degree of Master in National Security Administration, he was called to active duty by the Armed Forces of the Philippines in November 2009 and was assigned to the Civil Relations Service, Armed Forces of the Philippines, where he obtained several citations.

He is married to Dr. Mary Ann R Gaborni of Catubig, Northern Samar, who is also the Provincial Health Officer of Northern Samar.
